    Education & Experience

    Dr. Cara Bussell earned her BA degree in psychology from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR while serving in the Air National Guard. She completed an undergraduate internship at the Portland VA Medical Center. Thereafter, she worked at Oregon Health & Science University. She then moved to Colorado to work for Phoenix Multisport, which is a sober and active community for those in recovery from addiction. Dr. Bussell earned her MA and PhD degrees in clinical psychology with an emphasis in geropsychology from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs (UCCS). She completed practicum placements at the UCCS Aging Center, Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care, and the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). She then completed a pre-doctoral internship at Norton Sound Health Corporation in Nome, Alaska. This was followed by a geropsychology-focused post-doctoral fellowship at the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center. Her undergraduate and graduate programs, internship, and fellowship were accredited by the American Psychological Association, which speaks to the high quality of her education and training. She has co-authored eight peer reviewed journal articles and is president of the Psychological Society of the Pikes Peak Region. Lastly, she leads a monthly capacity assessment journal club for fellow providers.
